A Simple, Efficient Method for an Automatic Adjustment of the Lumbar Curvature Alignment in an MBS Model of the Spine

In many fields of spinal health care, efforts have been made to offer individualized products and therapy tailored the patient. Therefore, prevailing alignment spine must be considered, which varies from person depends on movement loading situation. With help patient-specific simulation models spine, geometrical parameters in a specific body position can analyzed, load situation structures during dynamic processes assessed. However, enable future usability such medical reality, as conditions possible need considered. Another critical requirement is that quickly easily created for use clinical routine. Building new or adapting existing multibody (MBS) time-consuming due their complex structure. To overcome this limitation, we developed simple, efficient method by automatically adjust lumbar curvature orientation model. The extracts 3D lordosis curve data preprocessing step. Then vertebrae all linked an model are transformed so follows obtained first part method. validate proposed approach, three independent experts measured Cobb angle source generated alignments. We calculated mean absolute error 1.29° between samples corresponded ground truth. Furthermore, minor deviation root square (RMSE) 0.0012 m2 areas under curves original target curvatures indicated accuracy demonstrated short time any suitable source.
